The square of a number added to its reciprocal

The phrase a number means an arbitrary variable, let's call it x.

the square of x mean we raise x to the power of 2. It's written as:
x^2

The reciprocal of x is 1/x

We add these together to get our final algebraic expression:
x^2 + 1/x
